Why Is LEARNING JUMPSTART the Best Choice to Increase Your Child's Educational Readiness Skills?
1. LEARNING JUMPSTART is comprehensive.
LEARNING JUMPSTART is unique as an educational readiness service because it is founded on the premise that children can learn literacy, math and other academic readiness concepts in conjunction with the development of language, cognitive and play skills. When educational readiness is discussed in the literature, it is sometimes asserted that preschoolers shouldn't learn about letters, sounds, numbers and other academic readiness skills. It’s argued that, during the preschool years, children should develop language through play and natural activities and academic concepts should not be a focus. Many preschool and tutoring programs align themselves on one or the other side of this argument. Their programs target EITHER play OR literacy development, with the implication that developmentally appropriate activities and literacy development are mutually exclusive for preschoolers. LEARNING JUMPSTART is a bridge between these two schools of thought. Everyday activities, including play, provide wonderful opportunities for the development of literacy concepts. The two are NOT mutually exclusive; in fact, play and everyday activities are the first and foremost avenue for the development of literacy.
2. I, Michele Long, am uniquely prepared to be the best service provider for your young child.
As a speech/language pathologist AND early learning specialist with twenty five years experience, I have a unique blend of training and experience to comprehensively assess and facilitate growth in your child’s educational readiness skills. Many tutoring programs hire employees who have little understanding of the speech, language and cognitive underpinnings for success in a beginning academic program. In addition, employees are required to use a predetermined curriculum that is inappropriate for many younger children they serve. Drill and work-sheet based services are not founded on an understanding of the developmental process of educational readiness skills. To design an educational readiness program that meets the needs of all young children, it is vital to understand that educational readiness begins while a child is still in the womb. The service provider must understand that children become progressively more sophisticated in their readiness level as they develop. Each child develops at his or her own rate and age is not the only variable in assessing a child’s readiness level. Some five year olds may be functioning at a much younger level developmentally and three year old children may be functioning at a higher level. ALL children are ready and eager to learn, and they let us know, by their interests, strengths, struggles, language abilities, and attentiveness to activities, at what level they are functioning. As the service provider for LEARNING JUMPSTART, I will determine your child’s educational readiness level and design an engaging program that is developmentally appropriate for him or her. I will encourage your child to learn at a developmentally appropriate pace and level and facilitate a love of learning that will pave the way to success in today’s educational system.
3. LEARNING JUMPSTART is convenient for parents.
Because LEARNING JUMPSTART is an in-home educational readiness service, it will be totally convenient for you. I can provide services at your home (within a predetermined radius) or at your child’s preschool program. Thus, services may be provided in an emotionally safe, familiar environment for your child. Depending on your preference, your child’s needs, and availability of group learning experiences, I will provide individual or small group learning experiences for your child. As parents, you are always welcome to observe and/or participate in your child's learning program to develop greater understanding and knowledge of educational readiness and techniques for facilitating these skills.
4. LEARNING JUMPSTARTis the pro-active choice.
When you buy a new car, you don’t wait for it to “break down” to bring it in for service; you understand that preventive maintenance is necessary to keep it running smoothly. The same principle is true for your child if he or she is at risk for academic difficulties. Early intervention is the key to success for these children. Remember that 90 to 95 percent of children who have trouble learning to read can progress adequately if they receive needed help early. Don’t wait to offer help when your child is already struggling academically. Strong educational readiness skills lay the foundation for school success. Children who possess this knowledge feel confident in their skills and abilities as they progress through the early school curriculum. Children who enter school without this knowledge begin struggling early to maintain the academic pace of their peers and fall further and further behind. These children often never catch up, and their self esteem, optimism and love of learning decrease along with their grades. LEARNING JUMPSTART can help your child enter school with strong educational readiness skills, confidence in his or her abilities to learn, and a love of learning that offers a positive beginning on the road to academic success!
