EARLY INTERVENTION = SCHOOL SUCCESS

Why Are Educational Readiness Skills Important?
CONSIDER THIS:

According to Sally Shaywitz, Professor of Pediatric Neurology at Yale University and author of Overcoming Dyslexia, your child is more likely to have a reading problem than any other problem for which he sees his pediatrician.

SOME ALARMING STATISTICS:

38% of our nation’s fourth graders can’t read on a basic level. 68% of fourth graders can’t read proficiently at grade level. 60% of twelfth graders can’t read proficiently at grade level. (National Center for Educational Statistics)

NOW CONSIDER THIS:

Children most at risk for academic difficulties are those entering school without the necessary speech, language and cognitive skills (including the ability to process and produce the sounds of our language). These children often have trouble learning to process the individual sounds in words to “break the reading code”. At least 20% of our nation’s children need explicit instruction to learn these skills.

AND THE GOOD NEWS:

90 to 95% of children can overcome these speech, language, and/or cognitive difficulties and be prepared for academic success if they participate in appropriate treatment at EARLY ages.
